Little Wild Privacy Policy
Little Wild helps you identify and record organisms you encounter. This policy explains how the app handles information.
Information stored on your device
When you save an observation, the app stores the selected photo, identified name, note, date, and optional approximate location in the app’s local storage. The current version has no user account and does not sync your journal to our servers. Removing the app may remove this local data.
AI-assisted identification
When you ask the app to identify a photo, the app sends a resized copy of the photo, the observation time, your app language, and an optional approximate location to our identification service. Location is rounded to two decimal places before it is used. Our service forwards this information to the OpenAI API to produce identification candidates.
The request is sent with response storage disabled (store: false). OpenAI states that API data is not used to train its models unless the customer opts in, but standard abuse-monitoring logs may be retained for up to 30 days. Images may be subject to additional safety scanning and retention described in OpenAI’s data-control documentation.
Service providers
We use Cloudflare to host and protect the identification service and OpenAI to provide AI-assisted image analysis. These providers may process request and operational information under their own privacy and security terms.
Permissions
- Camera: capture a nature photo when you choose.
- Photo Library: select an existing photo when you choose.
- Location: attach an optional approximate location to an observation and improve identification context.
You can deny these permissions or change them later in iOS Settings. Core journaling remains available without location access.
Tracking and advertising
The app does not contain advertising, an advertising identifier, or cross-app tracking. The current build does not include a third-party analytics SDK.
Your choices
You choose whether to submit a photo for identification, whether to provide location, and whether to save an observation. You can delete individual observations inside the app or remove all local app data by deleting the app.
